After 23 Premier League games, Swansea sit four points from safety, having scored just 14 times all season long. The Swans are by far the lowest scoring team in the league, and they need to make a big statement in this January transfer window if they are going to stay in the English top flight.
It is little surprise that Carlos Carvalhal is in the market for a striker, but it is somewhat surprising that the name at the top of the club’s list is that of Kevin Gameiro. The Atletico Madrid striker, along with his teammate Nicolas Gaitan, could be the ones to help Swansea ensure their safety, according to the Guardian.
Gameiro has registered four goals and an assist in 12 La Liga appearances this season, but the return of Deigo Costa has cast doubts over whether the Frenchman can retain his place. Gaitan meanwhile has appeared just six times, and will likely been keen on a move away to secure more consistent game time.
The Swans need to secure the services of a proven goal scorer, and the addition of Gameiro would certainly help their case for avoiding relegation. Gaitan is more of a recognised winger, and he could add a creative element that has been somewhat lacking for Swansea in this campaign.
