One of the principal reasons for the success of Premier League giants Tottenham under manager Mauricio Pochettino is their defensive solidity. Last season Spurs conceded just 26 goals in 38 league games, making them the best defensive side in the league.
In this campaign they have continued their impressive display at the back, but the North London club could be set to lose one of their key defenders at the end of the season.
Toby Alderweireld, unhappy with his current wages, could be set for a move away from Tottenham, according to the Express.
The Belgian has been arguably one of the best defenders in the Premier League over the past few seasons, so it is little surprise that the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested in acquiring his services.
Spurs’ wage structure is very strict, and currently sees the centre half earn significantly less than some of his teammates, and far less than Virgil van Dijk is earning from his move to Liverpool.
Reports suggest that Alderweireld is demanding triple his current £50,000-a-week salary, which would see him paid as much as Harry Kane. The club don’t seem keen on this idea however, and are now set to sell him in the summer for as little as £25m.
