West Ham Makes Club Record Bid for William Carvalho

West Ham United has reportedly placed a club transfer record bid of £27.1 million (€30 million) to Sporting Lisbon for midfielder William Carvalho.

A report from Portugal’s Record says that representatives from the London club are in Lisbon to try and work out a deal for the talented 25-year-old.

Sporting was hoping to take West Ham to a little over £36 million, but Carvalho has been jumping at the opportunity to head over to the Premier League.

The Portuguese international has been with Lisbon-based club for his whole career — save for a few loan spells at Fátima (Portuguese third division) and Cercle Brugge (Belgian second division) — starting at the junior level in 2005 before making the step up to the senior club in 2011.

Carvalho’s tenure with Sporting has really catapulted his career, becoming a staple at the defensive midfield position for the Liga NOS squad.

In five seasons with the Leões, Carvalho has appeared in a total of 154 games and scoring 10 goals so far.

Should the deal go through, West Ham would go into the Premier League season with a handful of new faces at the London Stadium as they have already signed Marko Arnautovic, Pablo Zabaleta, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez and Joe Hart.
